Beginning Your Research

To start to prepare for a conference, please follow the link on this webpage to the conference website, and then to go the page on that website entitled "committees." There you will find a description of your committee; eventually, you will find background guides (or "topic synopses") written by your committee chairs that will describe the exact issues you will discuss in your committee.

You should spend some time carefully reading the conference website. It will contain information about how to prepare and format your position papers, and how to submit them. (I will not allow students who fail to submit a position paper in advance of a conference to attend the conference).

Next, follow the link on this page to the CIA Factbook to start learning about your country. Then follow the link on this page to the Yale Model UN Research website. There you will find a host of resources about the issues your committee is considering (including past UN action on the issue), your country's foreign policy, and positions your country has taken in past diplomacy (including UN diplomacy).
